5.0 su 5 stelle Nifty, little guide to what I thought would be the hardest language to learn.. 8 settembre 2012

As a long-time admirer of Chinese language and culture, I have made many attempts to learn the Chinese language. Most of these attempts were unsuccessful (although I can proudly say that I did learn the phrase "ni hao ma"!) This book was a little different. Most books I have come across focus on providing a few phrases random travel phrases like "Where is the nearest embassy?" without providing minimal or no tips on grammar. This book actually provides tips on how to learn the language in the most efficient method It is not a long book (around 15-20 minutes reading), but it provides enough tips and guides that will go great as a supplement to anyone attempting to learn Chinese. It will help those learning Chinese on their own or as part of group.

Additional Guidance

Be sure to review the general tips given on Chinese. It has valuable information that is applicable to learning any language.

If you are enrolled in a Chinese language course at a community college or adult education course, use the tips provided in the book to supplement your study for better comprehension.

This book is a great read for anyone who is a beginner to learning the Chinese language. While the $3 price tag may seem high at first for such a short read, this book gets straight to the point with a number of solid techniques and methods that are sure to be effective and yield results, and in the long run you will be saving hundreds of dollars by NOT enrolling in tiresome Chinese classes which often do more harm than good. In the age of the internet there are much better ways to learn a language than by sitting in a boring classroom where you can hardly even get a chance to speak. This book shows you how to take your education into your own hands and learn at your own pace, which is often faster and more fun than sitting in a classroom. I know this for a fact because I have taken years of Chinese lessons in classrooms AND have used many of the techniques written in this book and studied on my own, and I improved faster and had more fun when I self-studied using books, the internet, and finding one-on-one language partners. A great read for beginners of Chinese.

As I said in my title, this book offers you a great deal of information, useful not only for people who want to learn Chinese, but any new language. It contains cultural information, so you can have a better grasp of the language and helps you understand the reason why you should continue learning Chinese. Chinese is a very hard language to learn as it is, but this book makes it seem easier and keeps you motivated. It has great pointers and refers to online help, wherever it is necessary. Apart from giving you online resources for further reference, it explains different ways of learning Chinese. It also explains why other methods are better than taking classes, information which is very helpful for everyone who is going to learn Chinese. The book helps you get started by giving you a list of most commonly used words, as well as online help where you can listen to the tones and pronunciation. I would definitely read it again, if I ever need to learn any other language, because it has great pointers on self teaching methods. I would definitely recommend this book!

Chinese language is indeed the most complex and difficult language to learn. But with the help of the techniques and useful links provided on this book my journey on learning the language will be a lot easier. The book is only few pages long. It is a short read but is written with great content.
The author discuss effective and less complicated ways on understanding the Chinese characters and share an excellent source online that will help you with the tones which is a very important key to being understood in Chinese and gaining fluency as you rehearse the tones regularly.
The book will also give you familiarization on the usual community Chinese courses available and will suggest things to consider before you decide to attend these Chinese classes. Moreover, the book also teaches effective ways in learning Chinese effectively. I truly consider this book as an excellent starting guide on learning Chinese language and I can definitely recommended this book to people who are really serious in learning the language.

I have been learning a little Mandarin from a Mandarin speaker. I didn't find this book that helpful. A lot of the problems with learning Mandarin is the pronunciation and a book cannot be that helpful with this. When I do speak Mandarin to most Chinese they get a fright at me saying something in their language they just stare at me not sure what to do. It maybe good for others but definitely not me.
