Sinossi

TRAVEL MONEY TIPS for anyone who wants their travel dollar to go further. Want to travel the world, but don't think you are rich enough? In this book a life-long traveler will show you how to travel further, for longer, for less. sometimes much less, money than you'd ever imagine.

Learn how to set a realistic budget for your next trip, and learn the single most important factor that determines your trip's price tag (Hint: it's not the quality of your hotels or the length of your trip).

Once on the road, this book describes how to best setup your financial life to manage your money while you travel. It also covers tips and tricks to minimize those pesky transaction fees that your bank like to charge, just because you want to use your own money overseas!

The last third of the book the author shares her favorite tricks and tips developed over 30 years of travel: tips to save money on everything from accommodation to sightseeing.

Check out the free preview!

This is not a dull numbered list of generic tips - rather it's the information the author would share with you over a coffee or beer if you asked her for advice on how to manage your money when traveling, and how to save for the trip in the first place.

As most of us do not live for free on a daily basis, don't expect to do so when you travel either! HOWEVER the author believes it is possible to travel for the same amount or just a little more than staying at home.

Americans tend to take organized tours more due to it being hard to take a few weeks off. Hence, they spend more on vacations! This is SO true. Typically, the longer/slower the trip the less spent each day. You, the traveler need to decide what you are prepared to compromise. Will you stay in a 3* instead of a 5* or maybe you will even take a tent. We did that one year as it was the only way we could afford to go on a month long trip. Like the author, we broke up the tenting by adding a night in a hotel about every 5 days so as to give us a break.

Where you vacation will also affect the price. Did you know that a 4* hotel in Thailand costs the same as a campsite in Australia?! I can so relate to the author when she says that many of her friends think they are independently wealthy as they travel for months at a time. Like she says, they don't notice the fact that her clothes and car are nearly 10 years old! If you want to travel, you can but most times there needs to be some saving.

There is a good list of the most expensive and the cheapest countries. At the end of each section there is also a helpful, quick summary.

What is a nasty trick that can be played on you when in a foreign country paying a bill? You need to refuse to sign and insist they do it another way! We have had this "trick" pulled on us one time and thought the bill was rather expensive. Not until I read this book today did I find out why! Will not be had again!

Why is it important to carry two wallets/money belts? Why use a USB stick when traveling? What is an 'Open Jaw' flight?

Do you realize that tipping in a non-tipping country (most of the world apart from the USA) can ruin the local economy and/or make prices higher for the next tourist? Learn about the country you are going to visit before you get there!

Answers to the above questions and so much more can be found in this down-to-earth, practical book. I thoroughly enjoyed reading. It was well written apart from a few places where 'you' should have been 'your' and the most obvious error was 'pounds stirling' which should be 'pounds sterling' but none of the errors affected the readability of the book.

If you have traveled at all, some of this you should already know but some of the info will be fresh. Well worth reading!

I am a fan of the "Non Boring Travel Guides" series by this author since the first book, but I must say, this is so far the best one! It really over delivers when it comes to the information how to manage your travel money and covers everything, from the best way of saving up and budgeting to how to get the best exchange rates in the different parts of the world. I am myself an avid traveler with more than 25 years experience of having traveled, and sometimes lived, in around 30 countries, but even I learned a lot of new information here.

Summary: If you plan to travel or even if you only dream to travel, buy this book! It will explain all you need to know in an easy to understand - and non-boring- way ;-)

A lot of good ideas, some ranging from tight budgets to considering personal desires and highlights of a journey. She writes about various ways of saving money in order to either make the trip happen at all or to be able to splurge on personal choices of activities.

I am a frequent traveler who often travels on a shoestring budget. As I write this review I am flying on a plane practically free using my frequent flier miles. I have tried many of this author's ideas in the past but did pick up some new tips that I plan on using this trip.

For anyone about to embark on their first overseas trip, then this is worth a read. Perhaps aimed at the cheaper end of the market (some discussion about hostels and couch-surfing) but the tips on money management and organizing travel etc are well worth it.
