I did not find the couple to connect well enough for the concerns over keeping purity that came up later in the book. It just seemed to be thrown in there to try to add a sexual tension to the story. And while we are on that subject, it is unrealistic to believe that just because a Christian couple waits until marriage that they must be constantly struggling in that area. In my own courtship many years ago, my husband and I loved each other deeply and looked forward to marriage, but were content to wait for that season in our lives.
All in all, this was a shallow story that needed a lot more work before being published.
Follow them on their journey that has them making discoveries about themselves and each other. At times, the relationship seems to be moving very fast. At, times they seem to be on different paths.
Enjoyable but needs more emotion and romance. I love this author but this is an early work that is not as polished as her later stories.
I do like the message of the book that God's timing is perfect and that He knows exactly what He is doing, BUT again the poor quality of the writing distracted from that message at times.
-I don't believe there is a single contraction in the entire book. This makes it tedious to read and unlike normal conversation.
-There are also too many characters introduced as the book progresses. Just mentioning a character and what their relationship is to the protagonist pollutes the book and weighs it down to no specific end. These characters played no real role and most only appeared once making no real contribution.
-The book is meant to be very centered on Christ, yet a divorced man is extolled as Godly without any explanation as to how the reader is to reconcile his divorced status to his apparent desire to follow Christ.
-Prayer is a central theme, and the engagement ring is prayed over, but a politician who has no regard for Christianity and the life of the unborn seems to be admired.
-I suffered through the entire book to the end and still have no clue why the groom, who owns his own business in Jamaica, and the bride, who appears to be a "normal" part of a workforce won't be together in the same country. It seems that they will be waiting on the groom to gain access to Florida, but if she's from Jamaica, why is she not returning? It would certainly simplify things and it makes no sense that a successful businessman would shut down his business to follow his wife (not the head of the household mind you) to maintain her mediocre job. The author may have mentioned it, but if that's the case I completely missed it and it was never referenced again.
-Finally, the entire scene where the at the time boyfriend tells her he wants to call it quits (there is no commitment at this point) then is upset because she doesn't fight for the relationship is ludicrous. If there has been no commitment made and an individual says they are through, normal people respect that. If she was supposed to fight for the relationship you're going to have to develop the relationship more to a point of an understood commitment before she should be expected to "fight for it".
The book has potential but it's almost painful to read through at this point.
