I read this book a few years ago and I have a very high opinion of it. I think the philosophical approach to the zombie trope is simple genius, and I was very sad to see the movie fail so hard in that department. The story and the approach to the narration really resonated with me, in spite of not being an admirer of zombies - I have to confess I really don't like them, so the only way for me to be interested in this kind of story was to bring it a novel approach, which the author did amazingly.
Despite having read this book long ago, I never did get a paper copy of it, which for me was a big shame. I'm definitely glad I can finally hold what I'm safe to say is one of my absolute favourite books, in my own hands.

4.0 su 5 stelle I am dead, but it’s not so bad. 14 novembre 2015

Author Isaac Marion writes a refreshing take on zombies.
This one is kind of like Romeo & Juliet, except R is a zombie guy and Julie is still alive. We get the story through his eyes. R does not remember his name or his age, or anything really before he died. In a world where the dead walk and the living are trying to stay alive, R comes across Julie one day while out looking for food.

Julie is running with a group of others when they are overcome by zombies hunting. When R sees Julie he knows he cannot kill her so he saves her instead. He takes her home to his zombie community, an abandoned airport.
What happens to R is that he begins to change as he falls in love with Julie. He finds himself becoming more human-like and apparently, this change is contagious. Zombies and the living have never fallen in love with one another, so theirs is a one of a kind romance and one that really turns heads.

The storyline was unique, the writing flowed smoothly and I enjoyed the romance and humor. I did not find any dull spots. The characters are well written and likeable, R made me laugh throughout and he is a sweet hero.

I also liked Julie’s character. She is no damsel in distress. She is smart, sassy and she sticks up for what she believes in. I liked that these two share a love of good music, like Frank Sinatra.

Overall, a fun, quirky, sweet story about how love can change people for the better. All you need is love right?

Disclaimer: This review is my honest opinion. I did not receive any kind of compensation for reading and reviewing this book. I am under no obligation to write a positive review. I purchased my copy of Warm Bodies by Isaac Marion.

I have to admit I knew nothing about zombies. My friend, Stanley, who is a big fan of The Walking Dead had to clue me in over dinner the other night. I'm a little slow, but I think I get the idea now.

R is the zombie. He lives at the abandoned airport with all the other zombies. He's been lucky enough to make an airplane parked at a departure gate his own home. Periodically he and all the other zombies need to go out and feed on the living. They walk down roads overgrown with brush and littered with rusted out cars searching for their prey. Sounds appealing, doesn't it?

It's on one of these hunts, R and his companions ambush a group of the living. He's immediately smitten with Julie, and eats her boyfriend, Perry, instead. By doing so R lives Perry's memories and based on what he sees about Julie, he decides to take her home. As they spend more time together, the lines blur between the not quite dead and the living. The pair is falling in love which unbeknownst to them may have the power to change the desolate world they are living in.

Warm Bodies is a little gruesome mixed with a lot of charm. R and Julie are lovable characters even though they are not without faults. The plague has brought the apocalypse to Earth but the earthly emotion called love can't ever be destroyed.

The writing is good. The book starts amazing. I think the author could have developed a much interesting plot with how he presented his characters through the first chapters. Unfortunately it ended up being one of those "meh" books for me. Even though it starts great, it ends up like a typical zombie romance movie. Once I was past the introduction, there was nothing that made me feel any emotions. The story is interesting, but nothing out of the ordinary. I would say, if you want to read something during your free time, go for it, but this is not the kind of book that will keep you up all night reading.

Another thing to consider, the book is written in first person from a male zombie's perspective. I'm a 22y/o girl, and it wasn't as romantic as some other books written by female writers. Although it does have its "aww" moments, there won't be anything that will make you feel that you are living the story. Overall, not a bad book, but not amazing either.

Who says zombies are dead?

Well, a lot of people I suppose. This isn't my first time reading this literary masterpiece and it won't be my last. "Warm Bodies" is incredible. I remember finding thIS book in a random store many years ago...I think it was a Target, not sure, but I found the synopsis very odd and because of that I read it. I loved it so much that I read it over and over again. I also read the "prequel" about a year ago as well and loved it too. Then, I found out Marion was writing a sequel and I was ecstatic.

R and Julie's characters are familiar yet utterly unique...does that make sense? We've all known someone who feels lost and always seems to be on the outside looking in and we also know a broken person who is just trying to survive all while having hope humming in their hearts. That is what they represent. HOPE.

This book, yes, it is about zombies, but it also about humanity as a whole. Warm Bodies breaks down humanity to it's molecular level and it tests it all while trying to save it. I love the humor in the book that accompanies the dark and stressful moments. R brings comedy, but a lot of what he experiences make you think. I think everyone should read this book. Even if you think it may be a bit corny, just do it.

Warm Bodies is unique and I have still failed to read anything like it. Isaac Marion has become an author that I highly respect and I am so excited to read more of his new work and continue reading his old.

When I knew there was going to be a movie based off this book, I just had to get myself a copy.
It's different from any other zombie themed tale I have heard of or read and keeps you wanting more.
With the new sequel "The Burning World" out, I just had to get this book in a form to bring with me any time.
Warm Bodies leaves keeps you thinking even after it ends and only starts bringing more questions that the rest of the series explains.
The movie adapted this book well, but is nothing like the book itself in details and the ending.

I recommend reading "Warm Bodies" before reading the prequel "New Hunger". Then dive right into "The Burning World" to answer only half the questions left. Once done you'll be wanting the finale book coming out even sooner and get the answers you so will need and want in "The Living."

It's a book that can not only fill that want to read something Horror related, but Romantic with actual thought put into every detail.
Not just a love story, but a tale to make you think hard about everything in the end.
(And yes, it does have some hints falling to Romeo and Juliet, but you'll have to see if it has a happier ending.)
