Descrizione prodotto

From inside a dream to the often provocative realities of an unreal world comes A. H. Wellewood s maiden literary voyage entitled, The Well: Memoirs of a Schizophrenic. Though having been stricken with paranoia and schizophrenia his entire adult life, Wellewood has succeeded in illustrating an array of challenges posed by the complex and widely misunderstood mental diseases. Narrating a select collection of true stories, his experiences of attempting to rise above the handicaps come into sharper focus than most previous authors in the genre could ever hope. Colored with threads of richly crafted metaphor and creative symbolism, Wellewood appoints his two key-tapping index fingers as a duo superior. Because his duo is expert in navigating every character on any keyboard, Wellewood has created an interesting guide that documents his innermost thoughts: thoughts that might have otherwise been deemed false or delusional. Can an individual s fingertips, extremities that live almost furthest from the mind, be so intelligent? Wellewood thinks so, and so might you after the final page is digested. Whether his story is but a mirage or a keenly accurate account, Wellewood allows those so inclined to join him on his journey to judge. He has certainly asked the right questions in this regard. To arrive at correct answers is worth more than just knowing the conditions exist.

5.0 su 5 stelle A psychiatrist's perspective 23 maggio 2011
Di neil Liebowitz - Pubblicato su
Wow, this is a short, but powerful book! We met at an author's meeting. He approached me upon learning that I was a psychiatrist who had written a book, also available on Amazon,Psychiatry in Techno Colors: A Psychiatrist's Memoir of Lessons Learned About Diagnosis and Treatment of Anxiety and Depression. He wanted to exchange books and write reviews. I knew nothing of the author other than him telling me that he was a schizophrenic. I corrected him saying he was a person with schizophrenia. This is not the first book someone with schizophrenia gave me to read. A previous author wanted me to confirm her diagnosis to convince a publisher that her work was genuine. I can say that The Well is very genuine.

The prose is more like poetry and reminds me of the surreal process of James Joyce in Portrait of the Artist. People with schizophrenia that I have worked with have a different way of thinking. The boundaries between past, present and future are blurred. One can never tell whether a memory is a true reflection of an event or a paranoid distortion. Unfortunately, a past delusional notion can persist and alter perception of a current event.

This book can be enjoyed on multiple levels: as a reflection on a person's emergence from a traumatic childhood filled with chaos, drug abuse and psychosis to stability and peace in a new life; as a warning to youth to not abuse drugs and seek psychiatric help; and as a window for mental health providers into the mind of a troubled youth descending into psychosis.

This book helped me to better understand how a person with this problem thinks. I am better able to be patient when dealing with these people now.
