4.0 su 5 stelle Much improvement from Ward & Dilmore 1 ottobre 2016
Di Brett Hartman - Pubblicato su
Formato: Copertina flessibile Acquisto verificato
In this novel, the penultimate book in the Vanguard series, Ward & Dilmore do a much better job than in their previous attempts. If I could, I'd give the book 4.5 stars, but two issues prevent me from giving it five stars: First, the events on Nimbus III make for a pretty boring read. Second, the authors engage in way too much recapping of what's gone on in the series to date. That said, this is still a great book, and I'd highly recommend that anyone who has started the Vanguard series not stop reading.
2.0 su 5 stelle Story line slowed to a crawl because it keeps rehashing the past books. 15 agosto 2014

I've read all the Vanguard books up to this one. The basic plot of the story is good though not original. Star Fleet is running around looking for ancient alien artifacts in its quest to fight the Klingons and Tholians. If you think it sounds a bit like Stargate SG1 or any other SciFi story where ancient alien artifacts are used then you would not be incorrect. That is pretty much what it is.

Characters development was good in the first 2 books of the series but over time I started to actually dislike the characters. I don't believe that was the authors' intention. Many of them changed and in ways that didn't seem "normal". Starfleet career officers just sort of going off the deep end. Drunken pilots becoming sober and almost heroic only to go back to the bottle over one person dying.

By the end of this book I've started rooting for the Klingons.

However my biggest complaint is that the author(s) tend to spend a great deal of time rehashing over and over what happened in previous books (or previous chapters). I wonder if they get paid by the word for I've had to skip 4-5 pages of just rehashing what I already know. It slows down what has already become a very slow story and they seem to be milking this story line into so many books when 3 solidly written books would have sufficed.

If you decide to read this series read the first 2-3 in the series and then call it a day. All the books afterwards are virtually pointless.

2.0 su 5 stelle Couldn't finish this one. 21 marzo 2012
Di John T. Wilker - Pubblicato su

I ripped through the series, until I hit this book. I don't know why but for this book the authors decided to simply kill off characters, remove them from the station, etc with only slight references to "oh yeah it's a bummer that person is dead." Eventually I'm sure it's explained but the first 20% of the book are so terrible to slog through you just stop trying. It shouldn't be that hard especially this far into a series, to get to know characters and follow the plot.

The reader is left wondering (as I did) if they missed a book. It was far too jarring, and killed the fun and excitement of the series for me. I had to put the book down (or rather archive it, as it's on my Kindle) and find other things to read.

Maybe someday when I've exhausted my library I'll come back and finish the series, but for me it ended with the previous book.

5.0 su 5 stelle Almost to the end... 27 dicembre 2014

I have to say, when I picked up the first book of the Vanguard series, I didn't think anything special of it. I just thought I'd be reading another licensed ho hum novel. Several books later, I have never been more glad to have been wrong. Get these books. If you're a Trekkie, read them. A fan of sci-fi? Pick them up. Wanting to try something different if you don't fit into the first two categories? Here you go. You're welcome.

5.0 su 5 stelle The saga continues. 13 giugno 2014

Almost done with the series, can hardly wait to read the last books. Once again this book series should of been a tv show. Human and alien drama at its best. I still love how they continue honoring the old series, and the movies that followed. If you are not a fan of Star Trek you won't recognize some of the past and future story lines that will be in the original show and at lest five movies. This book series is a great homage to Star Trek and I can hardly wait to finish the Vanguard series.
