A woman's faith in God is challenged by the first question Satan asks Eve in the Bible: "Did God really say you can’t eat from any tree in the garden?" That seed of doubt and the story it begins to unfold breed a concept of fear still haunting each of us on some level every day-the idea that our actions could ruin something beautiful, and God might not have control of things.

In What Women Fear, acclaimed writer and speaker Angie Smith admits, "fear is a major part of my testimony" and talks openly about her treatment for anxiety as a child. Giving a voice to the problem, she says, "I truly believe every single one of us struggles with some type of fear, whether it's fear of flying or fear of being 'found out.' Maybe you don’t worry about dying, but you get sick thinking about the fact that you might fail."

Rather than suggesting that those who truly love the Lord would never fear, Angie blends her own experiences with those of men and women from throughout Scripture to help us start dealing more effectively with these true, human emotions. Whether it’s a constant "What if?," a nagging fear of abandonment or betrayal, fear of your own or someone else’s death, fear of trusting God's plan, or even the fear that God's existence is a lie, Angie will walk you through stories of others who have simultaneously loved God and struggled with fear. Join Angie and discover how to let Jesus redeem this struggle as only He can, that He will be glorified, and you will be transformed!

5.0 su 5 stelle Life Changing - Soul Stirring 11 settembre 2011

I have been gripped with fear since I was a child. It has plagued me for 2 decades and as I read the chapters of this beautifully written book my soul stirred to the point of tears and knowing that I would not be the same. Next to the Bible, I have never felt so transformed with any other book. Angie is so transparent and real in the book and the Lord has truly used that to bring me to a point of freedom from fear. I love how she highlights different characters in the Bible in a way that draws you in and go to the Bible to finish reading about the character. One thing that struck me is how she mentions the fear that people in the Bible had, like David, but it was the way that we respond to that fear! Powerful Powerful Book!

5.0 su 5 stelle A Biblical Approach to Fear/Anxiety 6 dicembre 2012
Di LaBuenaVidaMere - Pubblicato su
Formato: Copertina flessibile Acquisto verificato
Over the past few years, I've read quite a few books that approach fear and/or anxiety from a Biblical perspective. Anxiety and fear were something that I dealt with on a near daily basis while pregnant, and so I was desperately looking for a way to calm my mind and experience some peace. Then again, when I found out that I had skin cancer, my library list was filled with books that I hoped would help me through the situation.

Unfortunately, I felt like most of the books I chose essentially said either, 'Because of Jesus we just don't need to be afraid of earthly things' or 'God says not to fear--the end'...which is all well and good, but not so helpful when you're already in the midst of fear and/or anxiety. Thankfully, Angie Smith's book was different--just as the back of the book mentioned, Angie took an approach of saying that we are all going to experience fears, but that there are a lot of great examples in Scripture for how to deal with those fears while we're in the weeds.

And more than that....more importantly than that...Angie is real in her writing. I'm going to be blatantly honest here--sometimes when I'm reading books by Christian authors, I don't get a sense of authenticity. Sure, they may share about small difficulties or frustrations, but I do sometimes feel like I'm hearing from the illusion of a person rather than the real person. I know they're probably not perfect people in real life, but sometimes that's how it comes across on the page. It's a lot like what we talked about yesterday for Messy Mom Monday--Angie is willing to share not only what she has together, but also what she doesn't. She's candid about the parts of her life that are a little messy, and that in turn encouraged me (again) that I don't have to be perfect to be a woman after God's own heart.

5.0 su 5 stelle A book of GREAT encouragement! ❤️ 12 marzo 2015

How my heart soared with gratitude for this book by Angie Smith! It wasn't on the bestseller list; I am not even sure how I found it! I would imagine it was recommended on my Kindle at the end of another book I was reading relating to faith & fear. This book was a Godsend for me. I am actually about to reread it! I just ate it up so quickly... I am sure I missed some good stuff! Angie writes very personally about her own struggles, and you can just see her heart. She obviously loves the Lord, loves her sisters in Christ, and has the gift of encouragement. This is an honest book that left me feeling there WAS hope for me to conquer my fears. Not a 'how-to/self-help manual', yet it taught me a lot about myself and about my Lord. I was greatly encouraged!

I HIGHLY recommend this beautiful book! I read a LOT of Christian books and this book will remain a favorite, which I will reread again and again!

This book is a great read for women and even better for discussion. There aren't any discussion questions provided but questions could be lifted from each chapter pretty easily.
The author does not provide pat solutions for the different fears she writes about but candidly shares her own struggles and is very relatable.
The women in our discussion group had two different thoughts on the book. For many, they wished that the last chapter was the first. For me, I enjoyed reading through the book then getting to the last chapter which ties it all together.

5.0 su 5 stelle What Women Fear 24 aprile 2015

Thanks to Angie for her raw honesty in the pages of this book. After a recent personal challenge, the fear and anxiety was overwhelming. I have saturated myself with Scripture and God's truth on the subject, and with the help of reading this book, I am equipped with the help of the Holy Spirit to daily hand this over to my Father God. I wept as I walked through chapter two dealing with rejection, abandonment, and betrayal. This proved to be the key that God used to start my healing. A must read if you struggle with fear. Bible first, then What Women Fear.
