Every person is known by their name and God is not different. God has a name. Although He is recognised by several names, there is one He placed higher than His other names. People use to have first name, second name and so forth. Some do have nick names. Most people have pen names and many other ways of recognition.
The distinctive name of God which is Jesus not only justifies such course of salvation but also hold the supremacy and uniqueness of the true God. Noteworthy, also, is the importance given to names themselves in the Hebrew Scriptures and among Semitic peoples.
The name is no mere label, but is significant of the real personality of him to whom it belongs. When a person puts his ‘name’ upon a thing or another person the latter comes under his influence and protection. ‘A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches, and loving favour rather than silver and gold.’ (Proverbs 22:1).
