TANYA MUNOZ My name is Tanya Munoz, better known as Tanya Glenn. I was born in 1969 in Raleigh, North Carolina, and I grew up in the Halifax Court Projects, better known as The Brix. By the time I was 13, I had already seen too much and had experienced sex, drugs and the streets. I had my first child at 17, and by 21 I moved into my own apartment, still in The Brix. I cherish my family more than my own life. I was once careless with them and lost everything behind it. Hitting rock bottom was a revelation for me, my way out of the darkness I held inside of me for years. "Wise Up" is a testimony. I'm no traditional teacher, but I hope I can reach individuals travelling down a similar and devastating path. One brick began the construction of a unit, Halifax Court, and that brick was my starting point. However, it is not my finish line. That truth inspired and empowered me to travel beyond The Brix. Wising up, literally, gave me a way out. All my life it seemed common for a person to fall, but today I understand that it is about what you do after you fall. I am in a position to change my life. I have a chance to fulfill some of my dreams, if not all of them, starting with "Wise Up." I am stronger today because I earned my life back. My mother, son and daughter, two grandchildren, and uncle are my support system and most importantly, Jehovah who walks with me everyday down a better path.
